As part of the 4th Goiter Awareness Week Celebration, the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) conducted a fun walk last Sunday, January 24, 2009. The fun walk was a way to appeal to the consciousness of everyone the importance of thyroid health and optimal brain development through appropriate education, information dissemination and the regular use of iodized salt. With the theme, "Goiter Iwasan at Agapan sa Wastong Kaalaman", the Fun Walk aimed to educate the people that we can fight iodine deficiency disorders in the most basic way such as using iodized salt everyday.
As the maker of the number 1 Iodized Salt in the country, Fidel Iodized Salt, ICCIDD invited Salinas to be one of its partners during the activity. Salinas distributed free iodized salt and other freebies to the fun walk participants and shared its healthy lifestyle advocacy by conducting Nigari Waza exercise.
Nigari waza is a fusion of Tai Chi and yoga. Combined in a series of poses, it is useful to to achieve a source of calmness and invigoration throughout the day. The objective of this system of motion is to re-activate an energy boost from within without being exhaustive.
This event brought a number of participants from medical societies, allied professional associations, governmental and non-governmental organizations, civic groups and international agencies.
The Fun Walk will started at 7:00 AM from CCP complex and then then passed through Macapagal Avenue in Pasay and ended upon reaching Mall of Asia.
